Kudzu, the scourge of the South.
I rode the rural roads today and came across some small patches kudzu in bloom. Kudzu can grow up to 2 to 3 feet a DAY in all directions, is highly resistant to any sort of herbicide and is the ingredient to many recipes. Don't believe me...
The flowers are small, a purple/fuchsia color and have a strong grape Kool-Aid scent (I kid you not). You can Wiki it for some more fascinating facts but for all that is good, holy and merciful...DON'T PLANT ANY OF IT! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!
Oh, I never leave home without my traveling companion. She loves going over dirt roads, it looks like she's having a seizure.

Beautiful.....but I hear you on the invasive vegetation. I have English ivy and black berries in my neck of the woods :)

grew up in atlanta, so i know this stuff well! near my parent's house it had grown over something, we never could figure what, but it ended up in the shape of a dinosaur, so we always called it that. lol
I've never heard of it, but those plants look familiar. So is the jelly good?
The jelly is kind of spicy/hot with a sort of cherry-like taste. It's not bad, I bought it just because I was curious.
This crazy plant is one of the reasons my family loved the south so much. I have loads of pictures (my favourite is of an abandoned drive in sign that's been almost completely covered in the strangling vegetation).
And I though I'd mention: my dashboard is curved so I couldn't have a hula girl on it. So I have a tiny one hanging from my rearview mirror :)
Three words...Hula girls rock!
