Still, the lettering in the second picture is pretty dang cool...would have been cooler if it would have said Halloween.

Last year one of our politicians actually asked people not to celebrate halloween as it is evil and about conjuring spirits according to him........
Someone forgot to do his research about Halloween.

Ohhhh, that just burns my biscuits to hear when politicians decide to be the morality police!
Conjuring spirits?! Oh look, my eyes have rolled back so far that I can see my brain!

My eye rolled back so hard, it gave me whiplash!
I mean, everyone knows it's all about eating small children and dancing naked with Pat Paulson, right?
Hey, do you have a good recipe for barbeque sauce? m;O)

Of course it is! I thought everyone knew that!

Hmmmmmm, I actually do have a barbeque sauce recipe...with a story behind it:
This was my grandmother's recipe that she got from a cookbook that came with her stove...her woodburning stove, no kidding (my mother still has the cookbook, it's fascinating to read how people cooked back then). I was in a small dive barbeque joint in Selma Alabama one day (I'm also a barbeque junkie) and on the back of the menue was the story of their famous "secret" barbecue sauce that was handed down from family to family down from the Civil War. I tasted it and it was indeed my grandmother's sauce.
This sauce is a vinegar based sauce, not a sweet sauce and may not be to everyone's liking so make a test batch by halfing the recipe before you commit yourself:

Grandma Macabre's Barbeque Sauce
2 cups vinegar
2/3 cup water
1 large red onion, chopped medium

Boil until onions are translucent and tender.
Add:
1 teaspoon red pepper
2 teaspoons black pepper
1/2 box celery seed
1 bottle ketchup (I use 16 oz. size)

Bring back to boil for 1 minute. Let cool or pour hot over meat for cooking. Can be used for a barbeque sauce in cooking or as a sauce.

WARNING! Stinks up the kitchen while cooking!!!

Ugh. I can just smell the potpourri in those pictures. Hand me my eau du rotting leaves!

Mr. Macabre said...

Oh yes, the place is Hobby Lobby and it has everything that's kute, kuddly and pastel in it. Unfortunately it's the only place around with decent art supplies.
And you are so right, it reeks of cheap potpourri.

Well, I guess with a name like "Hobby Lobby"...

Oddly enough, I stumbled upon a little shop-thing yesterday that I think did a good job at the whole year-round-Halloween thing...

lol your outrage is delicious.

The hokey harvest items don't bother me much, because people can use these for "fall" the entire season as opposed to "Halloween".

But if you want me to, I'll shake my fist in outrage with you just because you feel so strongly about it.

*shakes fist*

Hm, I don't know if I have ever seen anything around here (Detroit) saying Happy Harvest. I guess it's ok but YES, HALLOWEEN is the best word!

I can't add much here other than the fact that I am right there with everyone of you! Boo Hiss on that politician....we should chase him out office with broomsticks and pitchforks...that would teach him to mess with us! ;o)
